John has been playing trumpet since he was 7. Before going to university John played for most of York’s main ensembles (Guildhall orchestra, YSO, YCO, The Modernaires, Mr Swing Big Band) enjoying a very wide scope of music
After completing his Bmus (hons) at Huddersfield university he moved down to Gloucestershire, where he continued playing mainly big band work at a semi professional level.
He has been playing with Garforth since the 2008 Whit Friday marches (his first, which he thoroughly enjoyed). He has competed in several Area contests for different bands from 2nd to championship section, including solo positions of Flugelhorn and Soprano Cornet.
He has also competed in the National finals in 2001 for York Railway Institute Band, and 2008 with Garforth.
