Julian Walls
Bass Trombone
Julian started played the Euphonium with Wakefield Music Services at the age of 11 before teaching himself the trombone and joining a brass band. He has played with various brass bands (Wakefield Met, Gawthorpe Brass ‘85), orchestras, military bands, jazz bands and has sung with various choirs over the years. Highlights have included 3 military tattoos (Canada, Holland, Germany), Principal Trombone at the Sedbergh Brass Band Summer School and performing at the Arab Arts Festival in Kuwait.
After studying Music at Goldsmiths College (London), Julian took a break from banding but returned in a different form as a band trainer when he was asked to conduct and train Lofthouse Junior Band. Enthusiasm for conducting and teaching led Julian to conduct rehearsals and concerts with various local bands, work with Wakefield Music Services and ultimately led him to complete a teaching qualification to teach music in Secondary Schools.
As well as playing with Garforth Brass, Julian is Principal Euphonium and Assistant Conductor with the Wakefield Phoenix Brass Band, Bass Trombone with the Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra and sings in two mixed voice choirs. He teaches music and music technology in Wakefield and Doncaster and hopes to do more conducting and complete his stack of unfinished compositions in the near future when he gets more time!!!
